Deftones have officially announced their long‑awaited 10th studio album, titled Private Music, due out on August 22, 2025 via Reprise/Warner. This marks their first full-length release since Ohms (2020) — the longest gap between albums in the band's career.
New Album & Lead Single
Fans got their first taste of Private Music with the debut of the single “My Mind Is a Mountain”, released alongside the announcement Cryptic visuals teasing the album’s title and a possible release date appeared during a recent London show at Crystal Palace Park, fueling speculation that the album would be released on July 10, though official confirmation came later for an August launch
Recording & Production
The album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz, who previously worked with Deftones on Diamond Eyes (2010) and Koi No Yokan (2012). Recording sessions took place in California and Nashville, and this will be the band’s first album without bassist Sergio Vega, with long-time touring member Fred Sablan now a permanent fixture
Tour Plans & Live Comeback
To support Private Music, Deftones are embarking on an expanded 2025 North American tour, kicking off in Vancouver on August 22 and wrapping on September 17 in Kansas City. Support comes from Phantogram, IDLES, and The Barbarians of California, plus two exclusive shows with System of a Down in Toronto
Earlier in the year, they toured the U.S. with The Mars Volta and Fleshwater, where Chino Moreno revealed that the album was “very close to being ready,” explaining the lengthy gap since their last studio release
European fans won’t be left out — in addition to the June 29 show at London’s Crystal Palace Park (with Weezer and High Vis), the band added dates across Milan (June 17), Zürich (June 18), Hamburg, Frankfurt (June 20), Halifax, Eden Sessions, Roskilde, and Rock Werchter among others, with a full European arena tour planned for early 2026
Artistic Legacy & What’s Next
Deftones have long been acclaimed for genre-defying creativity, from Diamond Eyes’ subtle progressive structures to the atmospheric and emotionally charged compositions they have honed over decades. Moreno described the upcoming album as reflecting an "invigorated kind of sound," built on spontaneous creativity in the studio
As they gear up for Private Music, Deftones appear rejuvenated — combining their legacy of heavy, melodic, and experimental soundscapes with renewed energy and ambitious global touring ahead.
