Political Pushback Amid Controversy
Matt Robson, a Conservative representative for North Jesmond, has openly expressed his disapproval of the concert. In a statement to The Guardian, Robson emphasized the inappropriateness of allowing an artist with such a controversial history to perform at a public venue: “There is absolutely no way a man accused of such horrific crimes should be performing at a publicly-owned venue like City Hall. North East women’s organisations have raised concerns about the show, and I fully support their calls for this to be cancelled.”
The protest stems from multiple allegations of abuse against Manson—whose real name is Brian Warner—by various women, including actress Evan Rachel Wood. While Manson has denied the allegations, the fallout significantly impacted his career, leading to the termination of his record deal and roles in TV series.
The Show Must Go On?
Despite the pushback, there has been no official cancellation from the venue or Manson’s camp. The artist recently announced his return to touring, joining forces with Five Finger Death Punch and Slaughter To Prevail for a North American leg before heading to the UK and Europe.
